Trust in me

Philip joined me for prayers this morning. We decided to listen to a meditation from the Hallowed app. This particular mediation was on Devine Mercy. As we listened, the meditation guided us to reflect on the phrase "Jesus, I trust in you."

Philip sits there for a minute and then quips, "The snake says, '[singing] Trust in me'."

At first I kind of laughed at his observation, but then I was struck by the profoundness of what he said. The serpent has been telling us since the beginning to trust him and God.

Paper Money

Thomas walks up to Mama and hands her a scrap of paper with a smiley face drawn on it. "This is money," he explained. "You should take this to the store and buy something that costs $5 or $100 and then when you go to pay, give them this!"

"What do you think they would say?" questioned Mama.

"Probably 'Hey, this is paper money!'"

"And then what?" asked Mama.

"You say, 'But my son gave it to me!' and they would be like 'Fine, fine, fine'." After a small pause, he continued, "Or if it was a girl, she would say [voice raised to it's highest pitch] 'Fine, fine, fine'."

Thomas and the Raccoon (Part 2)

After trapping and dispatching one raccoon, we've had another that continues to get our duck eggs on a nightly basis. Our defense efforts have included a motion light, extra fencing, and even electric wire, yet the bandit continues to make nightly visits. We then went on the offense trying all sorts of traps. The first night, the trap was sprung, but left empty while one of our ducks became the raccoon's midnight snack. The second night was more of the same, with a sprung trap and most of the remaining duck eggs paying the price. Papa tried his best to create a fool proof trap, but the raccoon continued to allude him night after night. After the 5th night, Thomas commented, "Wow. I just never thought a 'coon would be smarter than my dad."

Thomas and the Raccoon

For the past few weeks a pesky raccoon has been sneaking into our duck pen and eating their eggs. Multiple efforts to secure the pen proved fruitless as he kept finding new ways to get in. Then, he upgraded the mischief when he decided to eat two of our guinea chicks. We, too, decided to up our game and set a dogproof trap.
Bernadette baited and placed it in the garden yesterday afternoon and we waited with baited breath (pun intended) and this morning, we had caught him red handed! The excitement spread quickly through the house and everyone was up watching him try to escape by 6:45. After a quick trial and sentence we headed out to dispatch it.
As we headed out, Thomas said, "Papa, you better get your axe. When we chop it open, those chicks are going to be so happy to be out!"

I'm not that hungry

Thomas just asked for a snack for the 10th time in the last hour (it's like 3:30).

Mama: "I think we have some turkey..."
Tom: "Hmm.."
Papa: "Thomas, if you are really hungry,  you could eat some spinach."
Tom: "What's spinach?"
Mama: "The green leafy stuff we had our on sandwiches yesterday."
Tom: "Oh... Well I'm not really hungry, just kinda, so I'll just eat some turkey."
